To get going with the second part of the exam, one needs to pull their socks up! The second part of the rater exam assesses your practical knowledge. As you take this test, it will align 7 tasks for you, each with a different webpage to evaluate. These are mainly Page Quality rating tasks. You will be provided a link to the website that you have to assess independently of any query. The link will only open in your mobile device. This task will comprise some sets of questions. Before answering any question, you should analyze the page and try to understand the purpose of the page. Why has it been created? What is the content it wishes to deliver? Once you understand this, you can subsequently study the page and continue your test.
It relates the first set of questions on your task page to the landing page, its purpose, whether it is malicious or fraudulent. Then, you will also be asked about the responsibility of the main content on the website and should be able to categorize the website. Then, you must check if it is a “Your Money or Your Life” page which determines the user’s future happiness, health, and/or finances. It could be related to the Government, healthcare, finances, e-commerce, etc.
If you find yourself struggling with any section, it is best to refer back to the guidelines and correlate the question with similar examples in the study material. Your guideline pdf will be your soulmate during the journey of a rater and trust me, it is an understatement!
The next set of questions will be based on
- Quality and amount of main content
- Information about the website and the creator of the main content
- Website reputation and the creator of the main content
- Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness (E-A-T) of webpages
The answers have a 5-grades scale varying from the lowest rating to highest. It is important to understand and evaluate each of the above factors.
Main content- The main content should be descriptive and informative. Especially for financial and healthcare pages, the content must be authentic and accurate as it influences the public. The amount of main content should be sufficient to deliver all the necessary information.
Information about the website- General information about the creator and the website can be easily found under the “about me” tab.
Website reputation- This should be well researched, especially in the case of YMYL pages.
Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness (E-A-T) of webpages- Pay attention to the expertise, authoritativeness, and trustworthiness of search results, especially for YMYL pages. Often, we make quick judgments for E-A-T but they need special consideration especially in case of those pages that are related to health, finance, or legal matters.
In the end, you will give an overall rating to the page varying from the lowest to highest scale and leave a necessary comment/feedback.
