The RWS Search Quality Rater is an arduous qualifying exam that is taken up by candidates to apply for job positions in Telus. The exam mainly comprises three parts, you can apply to RWS Search Quality Rater 1.1 or RWS Search Quality Rater 1.4, it really doesn’t matter as both are exactly the same with very minor differences. The first part is a theoretical open-book test. It consists of 32 questions, each containing 4 true/false statements, which makes it a total of 128 statements to answer.
- Most people get easily passed in this part. It is so because it is entirely based on the guidelines which should be referred to for double-checking each doubtful answer. Use the “Find tool” for searching for keywords in the guidelines pdf.
- Basic terminology should be clear about the query, results, categories, E-A-T, purpose, ratings, etc.
The level of difficulty grows further in the second part and subsequently in the third. The second part tests your practical knowledge. You have to take up 7 live tasks of assessing different webpages independent of any query. All of these tasks are Page Quality tasks. In the first section, you will be asked about the landing page, the purpose of the page, fraud/malicious content, type of content, etc. The second section is tabulated into various sections including the purpose of the page, information regarding main content and creator, website reputation, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness (E-A-T) of webpages followed by an overall rating and comment/feedback. Each of these sections includes questions to be answered on a quality rating scale that varies from Lowest to Highest.
- For this section, you should look for similar examples in the guidelines when answering tough questions.
- Understand the purpose of the page. Why is it created? What is it trying to deliver?
- They again use the third part for checking your practical hand. There are in total of 7 live tasks involving both Page Quality rating and Needs Met Ratings. Each live task involves 8-10 pages to assess.
- Again, for this section too, one should check for similarity in examples mentioned in the guidelines.
- Understand the query and user intent. What is the user looking for? Which webpage will answer his query?
- Open the webpages only in mobile phones, do not try to trick.
- Consider the overall mobile phone experience of the user. Check if the website is optimized well for phone browser usage.
- Check multiple factors such as keywords, the newness of content, location, reliability of web pages, linking, establishmentand history, reputation.
Some general points to be followed for each section
- Since there are only 7 days to prepare for the exam. You can take a look at the publicly available guidelines even before you get your invitation mail.
Google keeps updating its guidelines now and then. So, make sure that you only read the up-to-date guidelines for your exam. - Bookmark your guidelines, make notes of it, and highlight important points. Make sure you click on every link in the guideline and assess it. Pay attention to special cases and minute details.
- Do not forget to check out the WeLocalize learning portal where they post webinars and share knowledgeable points. WeLocalize closely monitors every new candidate and being active on the learning portal also increases your chance.
- Consider the EAT for each webpage. In most cases, a lower EAT will cause a lower Page Quality rating as well Needs Met rating. This can be judged easily if you are thorough with the guidelines, but we should give special emphasis in the case of YMYL pages related to law, finance, health, etc.
- Each task has a time limit of 1.5 hours, after which it expires. You should first complete a task, then click on “Submit and Stop rating”. After that, you can take a break for some time. Make sure you do not release the tasks, or you will fail.
- Check out different forums for rater interactions. Ask for help and guidance. You will find an entire community of raters willing to help you clear the exam.
