Whether you can use just a mobile phone to work at Appen mostly depends on the project in question but it will seriously restrict your opportunities to very few projects. Only very few projects accept the use of Tablets as well.

Mostly you are required to have a computer with a sound card and speaker available with you. Also, note that your Smartphone should not be more than three years old.

Also some projects specify that you need to have an iPhone or I Pad before you can apply for it. Some specify the use of android phones only. Basically the requirements vary from project to project.

However, if you wish to make a decent amount working at Appen it is best that you have a proper computer or laptop with a sound card and speaker. Also note that Appen never reimburses your investment if you wish to buy these for the specific purpose of working with Appen. If you get any mails offering reimbursement for these for working with Appen, these are spam mails and you need to immediately report them.
